Small Modular Reactors are the right move for UK energy security

Virginia Crosbie MP, Chair of the All-Party Group on Small Modular Reactors (SMR) has welcomed today’s announcement on Energy Security and the expansion of nuclear in the UK.

The SMR APPG has been established by MPs and Peers to better inform parliamentarians about the potential for SMR technology.  The cross-party group has been meeting with potential SMR builders such as Rolls-Royce to examine the nuclear technology being proposed.

The Chair of the APPG on Small Modular Reactors (SMR), Virginia Crosbie MP, commented:

“I strongly welcome today’s announcement and the creation of Great British Nuclear.  It will give greater certainty and focus to industry and consumers alike.  With the continuing repercussions of Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine driving up energy prices it is great to see the Government taking such decisive action.”

“British firms such as Rolls-Royce offer a huge potential to provide large quantities of secure green energy.  SMR technology could help decarbonise electricity.  Some SMRs designs also bring the prospect of decarbonising industry and home heating too through generating pink Hydrogen.”
